完成学业后，她曾于享誉全球的 Maudsley青少年进食失调专科诊所工作，积累了丰富的临床经验。除了临床实践外，她亦注重学术研究，在进食失调和心理创伤领域发表了超过二十篇的学术论文。
严博士对人道援助抱有浓厚兴趣，在英国期间曾参与红十字会及无国界医生的义务工作。此外，她亦曾担任英国牛津郡的一所精神健康慈善机构的董事，致力于推广心理健康服务。
Dr. Vanessa Yim earned her first-class honors degree in Psychology from University College London (UCL) and was awarded the Dean's List. She then completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford. During her studies, Vanessa was supervised by world-renowned experts, focusing on areas including eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and social anxiety disorder.
After completing her studies, Vanessa worked at the internationally renowned South London and Maudsley specialist clinic for adolescent eating disorders. In addition to clinical practice, Vanessa is also committed to academic research, having published more than twenty academic papers in the fields of eating disorders and psychological trauma.

郭碧珊在一九九五年于香港中文大学心理系以一等荣誉毕业，亦获颁优异毕业生的荣衔；于同校在二零零零年修毕临床心理学社会科学硕士课程时，更是全班唯一获登院长荣誉录的毕业生。在修读大学和研究院期间，郭碧珊总共获颁发九项奬学金。在香港中文大学完成临床心理学硕士课程后，她随即开始出任香港中文大学医学院香港进食失调中心的临床心理学家。在二零零一年，香港健康情绪中心成立之后，她亦同时出任香港健康情绪中心的临床心理学家。她于二零零四年获升任为一级执业临床心理学家。在二零零六年，更获一著名女性杂志颁发「成功女士大奬」。
郭碧珊对于治疗患有情绪病和进食失调症的成人及青少年极具经验，她并致力向其他专业人士及市民推广有关认知行为治疗和情绪健康的知识。郭碧珊为前线医护及社福人员如家庭医生、社会工作者等提供超过三十场专业训练，及为不同的公共及私营机构进行了超过五十场有关压力管理的讲座。她的著作包括有《为情所困》、《吃不由己》、《爱﹒情故事 I》、《爱﹒情故事 II》及《情绪探热针》。
郭碧珊亦透过媒体推广情绪健康和压力管理的知识。她曾接受多间本地报刊(星岛日报、经济日报、明报、信报、东方日报、苹果日报、大公报、成报、South China Morning Post、Hong Kong Standard、晴报、am730、东周刊、壹周刊、明报周刊和Jessica等)及电视电台(无线电视、亚洲电视、香港电台、商业电台、英国BBC电视台、有线电视、NOW TV及凤凰卫视等)的访问，及为报刊(东周刊、明报周刊及Jessica等)撰写关于情绪健康的专栏。
郭碧珊曾经担任心晴行动慈善基金的副主席和再生会的顾问。现为心晴行动慈善基金的顾问。
